Tasting notes | Jameson 18 year Bow Street Cask Strength

Midleton Distillery | Jameson 18 year Bow Street Cask Strength | Ireland | $159.00* | 110 proof | 18 years old | Pot Still + Grain Whiskey

About the whiskey.

Jameson 18-year-old bow street cask strength is a homage to their origins. The original location was on bow street in Dublin, but during the Irish Whiskey industry's consolidation, production moved to Midleton in County Cork. Jameson whiskey is a combination of pot still whiskey and grain whiskey.

While many whiskeys are distilled in a copper pot still in Ireland, this specifically refers to a style. A whiskey style that is unique to the emerald isle originated as a way to avoid paying as much tax on malted barley. Irish pot still whiskey refers to the use of malted barley and unmalted barley.

The Jameson 18-year-old Bow Street Cask Strength is aged at Midleton before finishing the whiskey in first-fill bourbon barrels for six months at Bow Street.

Tasting notes.

The whiskey is a golden straw color that entices your nose with hints of sugar cookie, vanilla, and spice touch. The mouthfeel is light but with earthy oak sweetness. The finish kicks in with a touch of spice from the oak before settling into a nice vanilla finish.

The takeaway.

The whiskey is not a cheap everyday sipper; however, if you are looking for a luxury whiskey, give it a try. I say luxury whiskey solely based on the price. It has excellent flavor, cool packaging, and a great story. For me, it is worth the money if you have $160 burning a hole in your pocket.
